Case Study of Noise Control Project in a Workshop Production Line
When the equipment on the 2nd floor of a workshop in a factory in Hubei was running normally, there was a severe noise exceedance in the corridor from the stairwell to the control room. The high sound pressure level of the equipment noise created a harsh acoustic environment in that area. To avoid impacting the upcoming inspection by provincial leaders, the workshop attached great importance to the noise issue and invited Huiyun for on-site investigation, seeking a solution.
On March 12, 2022, under the guidance of the relevant personnel, Huiyun conducted an on-site survey of the noise in the 2nd-floor sightseeing corridor of the workshop, including the ploughshare dryer, bipyramid, tilter, and other sources.
Under normal production conditions, the operating noise reached a maximum of 92 dB on that day, and the noise in the sightseeing corridor reached 68 dB, affecting normal communication. After a detailed survey of the onsite noise sources and propagation, we formulated corresponding technical solutions.
Analysis of Acoustic Environment Status
Noise Value Test Result
The table below shows the workshop test data
From the measurement data, it can be seen that the maximum sound pressure level in the sightseeing corridor area can reach 68.1 dB(A), which has a significant impact on normal conversations among personnel. During on-site testing, it was observed that the overall workshop has solid wall structures, and areas such as doors and windows are weak points for sound insulation. Additionally, the background environmental noise is 54.0 dB(A).
Noise Control Objectives
After overall control in the sightseeing corridor area (from the 2nd-floor ploughshare dryer to the corridor towards the control room), the noise value within this section of the yellow line in the corridor should be ≤55 dB(A). This will result in a significantly improved acoustic environment.
Remediation Plan
1 & 3 Drying Area (Ploughshare Dryer, Bipyramid) Noise Control Measures >>>
Remediation Approach >>>
(1)Install fully enclosed sound barriers along the structure under the door, and install acoustic curtains at the passage;
(2) For the original door at the bipyramid location, after communication with relevant leaders, temporarily close the door. The door will be dismantled after leaders' inspection. The remediation method involves installing sound barriers along the door frame, with the sound barrier having a quick-detachable installation structure.
(3) Install sound-absorbing curtains inside the main door corresponding to the Ploughshare dryer;
(4) The overall installation is detachable. After major equipment maintenance, the screen body and steel structure can be removed as a whole. After removal, they can be reinstalled for use.

(1) Install type C sound barriers along the existing steel column area.
(2) Install a double-opening acoustic door with an observation window at the workstation.
(3) Internally install acoustic curtains in the original double-opening door.
(4) The overall installation is detachable, allowing for the removal of the screen and steel structure during subsequent equipment maintenance. After removal, it can be reinstalled for use.

After the implementation of the above measures, the highest sound pressure level in the sensitive area of the sightseeing corridor is 54.47, meeting the owner's target requirement of less than 55dB. When the governor inspected the workshop, he highly praised this noise control project!
